The SmallRig Cage Kit (typically featuring the 2982B or the 3234 “Black Mamba” series) is designed to turn your mirrorless body into a full-scale cinema machine. While the R5 and R6 are ergonomic for stills, they need a “skeleton” for video to support monitors, microphones, and handles. This kit provides 360-degree protection and dozens of mounting points without blocking access to any buttons, the battery door, or the articulating screen.
Form-Fitting Protection: Made from lightweight, aircraft-grade aluminum. It locks the camera via a 1/4″−20 screw at the bottom and two anti-twist pins, ensuring the camera doesn’t “wiggle” inside the cage when using follow-focus motors.
Handheld Stability: Includes a Top Handle (usually the ARRI Locating Handle or NATO version) that makes low-angle shots and general carrying much more stable and comfortable.
Cable Security: Includes a dedicated HDMI & USB-C Cable Clamp. This is critical for video shooters as it prevents the cables from being yanked out, which can permanently damage the camera’s internal ports.
Arca-Swiss Ready: The base of the cage is a built-in Arca-Swiss quick-release plate. You can move the camera directly from the cage onto a DJI RS-series gimbal or a compatible tripod head in seconds without changing plates.
