The heavyweight champion of portraiture.
The Sigma 85mm f/1.4 Art is widely considered one of the finest portrait lenses ever made for the EF mount. It was designed to rival “exotic” glass like the Zeiss Otus, prioritizing resolution and bokeh quality above all else. It is famously sharp—often out-resolving the Canon 85mm f/1.2L II—and produces a look that is both clinical in its detail and artistic in its background fall-off.
“Zero-Compromise” Optics: With 14 elements in 12 groups (including two SLD elements and one aspherical element), this lens is engineered to eliminate chromatic aberration and “coma” flare. It delivers stunning contrast and sharpness even at its maximum f/1.4 aperture.
Master of Bokeh: A 9-blade rounded diaphragm creates soft, circular out-of-focus highlights. Because of its massive front glass, the lens has very little “cat-eye” bokeh effect toward the corners compared to smaller 85mm lenses.
Updated AF Motor: Features a redesigned Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) that provides 1.3x more torque than previous Sigma models. This allows it to move the large, heavy glass elements quickly and quietly for fast focus acquisition.
Weather-Sealed Build: Unlike some earlier Art lenses, the 85mm features a rubber gasket at the mount and a dust/splash-resistant structure, making it a reliable choice for outdoor weddings and on-location shoots.
