The professional 35mm SLR that watches where you look.
The Canon EOS 3, released in 1998, remains one of the most advanced film cameras ever built. Positioned between the consumer EOS 5 and the professional EOS-1N, it introduced legendary technology that still feels futuristic today. It is widely considered the best “user-level” film camera for those already shooting with Canon EF lenses.
Eye-Controlled Focus (ECF): Its most famous feature. After a quick calibration, the camera uses infrared sensors to track your eye movement. It focuses wherever you look among the 45 AF points. Simply look at your subject, and the camera locks focus.
45-Point Area AF: At its launch, this was the most sophisticated AF system in the world. It provides incredible coverage across the frame, making it excellent for sports and moving subjects—even by modern standards.
Pro-Grade Metering: Features a 21-zone evaluative system and a highly accurate Multi-spot meter (allowing you to average up to 8 different spots in the frame for perfect exposure).
High-Speed Performance: It can fire up to 4 frames per second (fps), or up to 7 fps if you attach the optional PB-E2 Power Booster (which also adds a vertical shutter release).
