Hybrid Image Stabilization (IS): Most IS systems only compensate for “angular shake” (tilting). Hybrid IS also compensates for “shift shake” (up/down/side-to-side movement), which is significantly more noticeable when you are inches away from your subject.
Flattering Portrait Compression: At 100mm, this lens provides a beautiful “telephoto compression” that is extremely flattering for faces, effectively thinning the features and creating a professional look.
Fast & Silent AF: The Ring-type USM motor provides near-instant autofocus. For macro work, the 3-position focus limiter allows you to tell the lens only to look in the “close-up” range, preventing it from “hunting” all the way to infinity.
